I bought this Saab stickshift station wagon eight years ago to be the “paddle wagon”. After 8 years and 53,000 miles, it’s time to hand this over to another enthusiast.
This has been a great car for that purpose. The roof bars are Saab-specific Thule bars that fit into mount points below the weatherstripping. I added a tow hitch and wiring harness to haul my club’s Yakima Rack-n-Roll 78 trailer. This vehicle has cartopped as far as Maine and towed as far as Rhode Island.
It’s shorter than an SUV, making loading boats on the roof easy. I’ve been able to park in my building’s garage in Manhattan.
It’s a decent camper as well, for those nights you arrive at the campground too late and need to sleep in the car.
The driving experience is great as well. Mileage is good for a car of this vintage, even with boats loaded. Acceleration is quick for passing and handling is smooth. In addition to paddling duties, it’s been pressed into service to bring home a water heater and for bringing home pavers for some home projects.
Heated seats in the front, leather all around, moonroof, plenty of room in the wayback for gear. Also including ball mount to match a Yakima kayak trailer.
